NYFW Preview: (Sustainable) Fashion's Night Out

I will not be in NYC for this upcoming fashion week but rather on the road working on new art and fiber outreach initiatives here in Europe. I will miss seeing dear friends and celebrating all of the hard work that they have put into new collections, handmade accessories, and valiant efforts on the sustainable/ethical fashion frontier.

One event that is particularly exciting this week is (Sustainable) Fashion's Night Out, co-hosted by EcoSalon at the Textile Art Center's gorgeous new Manhattan space. Amy DuFault, Managing Editor and Fashion Editor for EcoSalon describes the event as the following:

"(Sustainable) Fashion’s Night Out, (will be) a unique collective at the Textile Arts Center in Manhattan co-sponsored by Of Rags and the New York City Fair Trade Coalition – featuring fair trade and sustainable designers and shops carefully curated to tempt the tastes of all. The collaborative event takes place on September 8th, from 6 to 10 p.m. at TAC’s new location, 26 West 8th Street, and will gather sustainable and mainstream style purveyors under one roof."

Goodie bag/sustainable product totes will be given out to the first 30 guests and will include this visually inspiring World Textiles issue of HAND/EYE magazine.

Scandinavian Noir Beauty + Raw Goodness

With Copenhagen Fashion Week having come to a close this past weekend and Stockholm Fashion Week gearing up this week, it is time to officially acknowledge that Scandinavia is the place to be for all the beautiful people during this softer and perhaps more reflective time of the summer.

The super gorgeous Johanna Björk of Goodlifer and Råfrisk just posted a brilliant medley of 'Good Stuff: Scandinavian Noir' to celebrate the darker and sexier shades of sustainable style in her homeland.

Johanna writes, "Bllack Noir was established 3 years ago as a sub-brand of Danish conscious fashion label Noir. This LBD (above) has some badass details that will set you apart from the crowd, yet is classic enough to last a lifetime." Agreed. Johanna is also a new fashion and lifestyle correspondent for EcoSalon. She's one hot woman to watch and definitely understands the raw side of real beauty, fitness, and good living to boot.

A Return To Nature Or A New Dawn In Fashion?

Alba 02 / site specific installation in rural Italy by Abigail Doan

I am so honored to be a part of a transformative dialogue on EcoSalon this week in an article written by Amy DuFault for her five part series on the post-recession fashion industry. In this latest installment, Amy asks the important question, "Now more than ever, is eco-fashion inextricably linked to conscious connections with land and place?" Follow this trail for an inspiring read and some valuable insight into fashioning the future and a new dawn in our connectedness with the environment and identity.
