Blogger Style Now: Kelly Knight Handweaving

Some of my fondest memories from my childhood on our family farm are of snowbound days indoors when my mother sat at her loom working on new projects. I loved the sound of the shuttle clacking back and forth, and the aroma of tea seeping through the chill of our wood stove heated farmhouse.
Perhaps this is why handweaver Kelly Knight's blog brings back such nostalgia for these homespun afternoons in the Hudson Valley. The all natural fibers and textures of her scarves, shawls, and home goods remind me of the goodness that was the backdrop of my upbringing.
Knight uses fine bamboo, merino, and tencel in her woven textile designs, and her colorful life on Cape Cod is thoughtfully represented by the subtle hues and alluring surfaces that these fibers and landscapes yield.
This type of handwork is a tremendous labor of love and one that speaks to the longevity of slow fashion integrity. You can follow the trials and tribulations of being a modern era weaver and advocate for sustainable living on Kelly's artist/designer blog.

Her gorgeous designs are available at Shift boutique in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and at various events and shows that Kelly lists on her website.
