Mandy Coon Spring 2011 at MILK STUDIOS was one of the shows that I missed yesterday due to domestic goings on, and I have to say that after seeing these images on Style.com, I am indeed intrigued by the aquatic theme for this collection. Though Mandy Coon is not a sustainable fashion designer per se, I loved the show's invite with its washy ink drawing of jellyfish floating through a milky white void.
The floaty construction of these pieces and their freeform tendrils and loosely attached appendages suggests an organic quality that is not only edgy and romantic but also offers just a hint of biomimcry. It is debatable as to whether nature was really the designer's muse. It appears that tactile jersey fabrics and her own downtown flair informs Mandy Coon's hip personal style, but nonetheless the coral-hued injections in these dresses shoots a wink to the deep sea magic that also translates well to evening adventure.
