Gift of Hope for Women of the Congo

photo credit Lynsey Addario: Congo/Women Portraits of War

The very inspiring Kerry MacMullin of Green Is Black recently shared this news with me, as her eco boutique in Toronto will be a sponsor for this upcoming, eye-opening event.

Women and Girls of the World will launch its project 'Gift of Hope' this weekend, in an effort to reach out to the silenced women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Through an eco fashion show and outreach event in Toronto on Saturday evening, October 17, Women and Girls of the World will aim to cultivate awareness and raise funds to aid the girls living on the streets of Kinshasha in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gift of Hope will be launched at Gibsone Jessop Gallery, Distillery District Bldg. 4-55 Mill Street in Toronto. The event will feature unique eco chic designs from three Canadian eco fashion sources, Hempress, Green is Black, and Emua Fashions.

* Visit Women and Girls of the World for more information and
read this NY Times article on rape victims in the Congo. Don't miss Congo/Women.org as well.

The Shape of Things To Come

deux fm's 'Eliza Dress', made sweatshop free in Canada

Nothing spells fashion-forward like a timeless dress that you not only covet but can play shapeshifter in - sustainably. I just featured the above deux fm ruby-hued Eliza Dress, available at Green Is Black, for a Canadian eco fashion round up on Eco Fashion World. This dress is hot, but not because it is red. It has so many cool permutations for wearing that it might just rival The Uniform Project.

*visit Green is Black for more great eco fashion
